What Others Say...

Just as we came up to a sweeping bend - only 30k's to go for insane waves when we had all four boards lift off the roof.

I glanced down at the speedo - 100kmh plus. The boards flew in separate directions up to to 30 feet in the air.

We backed up for the horrifying moment of truth and slowly eased out our pride and joy - cracked fins, broken tail and rails, along with coarse language coming from the crew.

Mine was unscathed - with just a rip in the board bag fabric from sliding along the road. I didn't miss out on the 6 foot barrels!!

I pull out onto Legian Road and the throttle on my motorbike jams wide open. I plough on through a maze of oncoming traffic, somehow managing to escape a "Head On" with a truck. Instinct has me heading for the roadside ... but there are more carts coming the other way!

My board takes out a fruit cart, verbal abuse in Indonesian follows. Meanwhile I'm bouncing down the road trying to re-gain control of my bike, my board bag is being thrown about and dragged down the road. I re-gain control of the bike and cut the ignition, my mates are pissing themselves laughing and I'm freaking out. We bail out before the locals gather.

Later we pull up at Ulu's and are greeted with 4-5' Racetrack. I pull out my brand new 6'6" expecting the worst ... only two small pressure dings on the bottom and my board bag is still intact!!

Thanks Surf Tubes,

By the time we had settled on the best spot to surf that day, we had been travelling for over two hours.

The roads are no good here, we had gone past this pass in the reef on the first trip around the island, earlier.

The trade wind had now cleaned up the coral bottomed barrels.

It wasn't until I waxed up that I wished to hell, that I'd had my board in its cover!

Pressure dings everywhere, I hate that!

I never think twice about what state my sticks will be in after any surf trips, be it locally or overseas.

The same way they go into the covers is the same way they come out ... sweet as!
